Layout/Whitebox of Farm (Iris)
My role was to design the layout for the middle of the level. There were a few things I needed to implement such as a garden plot, enemy/bug spawners, weapon/pesticide spray, paths to other areas, and tomato seeds. Initially, I also thought we would place a collectible in this area but my team and I later decided it would be best to move this to another area. We also decided that the player's start should be in the middle so I later added another path for the player from their starting position. The main struggle I had while making iterations was trying to create a good balance so that the player would explore the entire area and not have everything concentrated on one side of the level. I also wanted to make sure that we were placing things in areas that would make sense narratively. That's why the pesticides are always near the path leading to the barn. Spacing out the bushes where enemy bugs will spawn was the biggest part of trying to space things out. I knew I wanted to place three in hopes of creating difficult but not impossible gameplay for the player. The issue was that I had to figure out which side I wanted to place them on and how far apart I should place them without making the level look unnatural. With the addition of another path and the player starting position, I decided to place a bush in each area separated by the different paths.
